fit for a princess - stash project

Yes, I actually finish a quilt once a while.

   The sun is peeking out even the cars are still frosted outside and it is supposingly not as cold as yesterday. But believe me, my fingers were frozen by the time I snapped a few pictures. I couldn't resist. Quilt pictures need to be taken outside.
   The very first Quilt As You Go Project is finished. The label needs to be added today, but by tomorow afternoon it should already  have its new home. I am not convince about the technique or about how I tackled it, because  even my strips in the back are all straight the stitching  is not. The quilting is supposed to be all crazy, but not on the joining strips. Chiara tried to get her hands on the this quilt and I do love the pattern and colors, too; however this one is just baby/kids size and has an adorable princess castle print  flannel backing. There is a project for Chiara waiting on the sewing table next.

Butterfly Scrap Quilt - finished

The top finally got a flannel backing, it is quilted and the binding is done.

Voila.

The baby quilt is done. Not absolutely perfectly. Grrr. But the front looks fine. The back almost.

Now I want some chocolate. But there is none in the house. Mmm. Perhabs I should leave the house more as once a week? And that was purely for grocery shopping and I still didn't get any chocolate.

Butterfly Scrap Quilt

A few days ago I decided that I had to make a quilt top. I had a pattern in my mind out of scraps or fabric in my stash, some which I had since a decade. It is nothing so special, but it is was really good to be back spending a night on my sewing machine. I guess which might even have missed me. LOL. Not even once the thread ripped, or the needle broke or aything else happened besides that I miscalculated the first block I made and have one extra now - smaller.



The easiest part after choosing the fabric is done and I added the last two strips on the right and left side of the top thsi morning, now I just need to get my mind set sometime to layer it and pin it and actually quilt, hopefully without wrinkles. I have to admit, I am dreading that part. I have a ferw quilt tops almost done, but that step is the hardest. Adding the binding I love. By now I figured out how to close the two ends so you don't see the beginning and the end - if I remember how - and sewing it to backside by hand it takes a little bit more time, but it is just the last step. The last touch for a quilt.

But I do hope that with the quilting I can give this scrap quilt the special something that it is still missing before I can send it its way.

T-Shirt to Newborn Caps - Part 1

Strolling through my favroite blogs I came across a new addition from Soule Mama "Mama to Mama" introducing its first project. The Caps to Cap-Haitien Project: A Partnership with Konbit Sante, will initially provide newborn jersey caps to be distributed in Safe Birthing Kits in northern Haiti.

Reading through the posting I thought that's something I can help with. I have a sewing machine. A box of sorted out clothes, not really time, but sometimes you just make time because you want to, so an hour later after recycling old tshirts and an old jersey dress there's a small stack of baby caps.

Isabell saw what I made and right away told me, Mama you can show me how to do it and I CAN make those, too. So now we have plans for Sunday afternoon with an extra reason to sort through our Tees in the closet and making more caps . Then you might see Part 2.

By the way if I would have known that this is so easy and turns out so cute, Bella would have gotten cute caps as a newborn, too, and that even handmade. But eight years ago she got a typical German newborn cap.
